Root End Surgery — also known as an Apicoectomy — is a minor endodontic surgical procedure performed to treat infection or inflammation at the tip (apex) of a tooth’s root, especially after a root canal treatment has failed to fully heal the area.

Procedure Steps:

Local anesthesia: The area around the affected tooth is numbed.

Incision & flap creation: The gum is gently lifted to access the root tip and surrounding bone.

Root-end removal: The infected tip (apex) of the root and any inflamed tissue are removed.

Root-end filling: A biocompatible material (like MTA – mineral trioxide aggregate) is used to seal the end of the root to prevent reinfection.

Suturing: The gum tissue is repositioned and stitched back into place.

Healing: Over the next few months, the bone naturally heals around the end of the root.
